England’s forward stocks took a significant hit on Sunday afternoon at Allianz Stadium after both Gareth Ellis (Wests Tigers) and Sam Burgess (Rabbitohs) were forced to leave the field with leg injuries.
Sam Burgess was the first off the field in just the 24th minute after succumbing to an medial ligament strain whilst attempting to bring down Wests forward Aaron Woods. Early diagnosis of the injury is that it is either a grade two or three strain, with scans to reveal the severity of the injury later this week.
Gareth Ellis’s injury occurred at the half-hour mark, with the English international suffering a suspected fractured ankle. The full extent of the injury is expected to be known early in the week, however it is expected that Ellis will be out for at least the Wests Tigers’ Good Friday clash against the Brisbane Broncos at Allianz Stadium.
