A near perfect first half has launched the Roosters to a great 40-12 win over the Gold Coast Titans in their Round 6 NYC clash at Skilled Park.

The Sydney Roosters dominated the Titans down the middle of the park, constantly proving a threat through hooker Clarrie Moore, five-eighth Cory McGrady and fullback Roger Tuivasa-Sheck.

Two late tries to the Titans closed the gap slightly, but the Roosters were simply too good in the first half, and claimed another two points.

They got their first points in just the 3rd minute of the game, after the Titans had spilled the ball in their opening set, with Usaia O’Sullivan putting a good hit on opposite winger Tom Guymer off a Riley Jacks cross field kick, forcing the mistake, and Jack Noble dived on the loose ball. Cory McGrady added the extras for a 6-0 lead.

For the next 15 minutes it was composed and dominant football from the Roosters, as they worked over the Titans through the middle of the ruck and took advantage late in the tackle count.

They scored in the 14th and 22nd minutes, firstly through Tuivasa-Sheck, who backed up a break by Noble, and then Dylan Napa, who crashed over next to the posts after some good work out of dummy half from Moore.

The Roosters continued to dominate play, completing sets and putting the Titans under constant pressure. Another two tries to Cory McGrady and Joseph Forrester in 4 minutes stretched the lead to 28-0, and effectively shut the game out for the Titans before half time.

The tries just kept coming in the second half, firstly through Jacks and O’Sullivan to extend the Roosters lead to 40-0 after 57 minutes.

After some sloppy football from both teams in the next 10 minutes, with just one complete set, the Titans finally got onto the board when Hymel Hunt broke the line, drew Tuivasa-Sheck and sent Jamal Fogarty over under the posts, with halfback Kayne Elgey converting with ease to bring the score back to 40-6.

They crossed again in the 75th minute through Edward Murphy, which was again converted by Elgey, but it wasn’t enough, as the Roosters ran out convincing winners 40-12.

Best for the Roosters were halves Riley Jacks and Cory McGrady, prop Dylan Napa and fullback Roger Tuivasa-Sheck. For the Titans, hooker Sam Irwin and prop Edward Murphy kept trying despite the score-line.
