The Newcastle Knights NYC have had a nail-biting 28-28 draw with the Cowboys at Hunter Stadium.

The thoroughly entertaining match kept fans on their toes with Lachlan Shipard converting from the sideline to bring the Knights level with just minutes remaining.

The Cowboys were first to score in the 11th minute through fullback Wayne Ulugia, Sam Forster added the extras to take the score to, 0-6.

The Knights hit back in the 25th minute after some nice lead-up work from the forwards, with Corbin Sims carrying four defenders over the line, Shipard made no mistake with the conversion, taking the score to 6 all..

Great tries from Adam Clydesdale and Api Pewhairangi got the Knights out to a 16-6 lead with just minutes remaining in the first half. The Newcastle men looked good in the first stanza and deserved their 10 point lead as they went to the sheds.

The Cowboys came out firing in the second half with Chris Grevsmuhl scoring his first try just minutes after the kick-off. Tennyson Elliott scored again for the Cowboys shortly after, taking the score to 16-18 after 48 minutes.

William Smith's sin-binning didn't make the situation any easier for the Knights, but the Novocastrians rallied scoring a try through Kurt Mann and not allowing any points during the danger period.

However, a late run from the Cowboys saw them score two tries taking a 28-22 lead coming into the final quarter.

The game became very intense, and just as it seemed it might be too late, Chanel Mata'utia's powerful run gave the Knights a chance to equal the match. Lachlan Shipard showed fantastic nerve from the sideline, adding the extras taking the score to 28 all, where the score remained.
