Wednesday night’s Game 2 of the Harvey Norman State of Origin Series at ANZ Stadium is now sold out and is set to post the biggest Sydney Origin crowd since the stadium redesign following the Sydney Olympics.

The match was officially sold out late this afternoon with more than 83,000 fans snapping up tickets for the clash after temporary seating was brought in to cater for the demand from fans and increase capacity to 83,999.

Since the redesign of the venue following the Sydney Olympics, the biggest Origin crowd in Sydney has been 82,487 set in 2004, when NSW scored a 36-14 win in the Game 3 decider.

“This is the second year in a row NSW fans will have packed out ANZ Stadium and I know how much it means to the boys to have that support behind them,” NSW VB Blues coach Ricky Stuart said today.

“The atmosphere the fans generated last year was amazing and you could see the lift it gave the boys.

“That’s what Origin is all about and it shows how important this team and this game is to Blues fans everywhere.”

ANZ Stadium Managing Director, Mr Daryl Kerry, said: “State of Origin Rugby League has become one of world sport’s greatest rivalries and Game 2 of this year’s series is a must-see event if you have a love for sport.

“The fact we will have a full house tomorrow night proves how passionate the people of Sydney are when it comes to Origin footy.

“ANZ Stadium is a fantastic sight when it’s packed with passionate, colourful fans. Let’s hope a capacity crowd can help the Blues even the series ledger 1-1.”

Any fans still hoping to attend the match are urged to monitor the Ticketek website in case any tickets are returned to the system.

The biggest Origin crowd to attend a match in Sydney was 88,336 in Game 2 of the 1999 series at the same venue – then named Stadium Australia.
