Fans buying tickets to the 2012 Telstra Premiership Grand Final will have exclusive access to a game-day carnival precinct at ANZ Stadium that will revolutionise the way Rugby League celebrates its biggest match of the year.

In a stunning transformation to take place during Grand Final Week, more than two kilometres of temporary fencing will be erected around ANZ Stadium to create a carnival precinct featuring interactive games, rides, live music, a merchandise supercentre, family areas, food stalls and Grand Final team bars.

The project is being created through a partnership between the NRL, ANZ Stadium and the NSW Government with all ticket holders to the Telstra Premiership Grand Final having the freedom to move in and out of ANZ Stadium and the entertainment precinct to enjoy the carnival atmosphere as well as all the Rugby League Grand Final action.

“This carnival precinct will give fans attending the Grand Final a game-day experience unlike anything ever before,” said ARL Commission Interim Chief Executive, Mr Shane Mattiske.

“Grand Final Day is such a special event on the calendar and this precinct captures the excitement and atmosphere of the day and is all about giving fans an experience they will never forget.

“It’s a really exciting innovation to our week of Grand Final celebrations and I can see it becoming an integral part of Grand Final tradition as it grows in the future.”

NSW Minister for Tourism and Major Events, the Hon. George Souris MP, said the carnival precinct would provide a thrilling attraction for the thousands of visitors travelling to Sydney for the Grand Final.

“The NSW Government, through Destination NSW, is pleased to be involved in supporting and promoting Rugby League’s Grand Final Day, one of the most anticipated events on the NSW calendar,” he said.

“The carnival precinct at Homebush, with its many attractions, is an exciting innovation which will add another exciting dimension to the Grand Final.”

Rugby League fans will be able to get their first look at the precinct on the Thursday of Grand Final Week with the broadcast of the NRL Grand Final Footy Show, followed by a mass coaching clinic on Friday.

ANZ Stadium Managing Director, Mr Daryl Kerry, said the NRL Telstra Premiership Grand Final will be an unforgettable event for footy fans.

“This is about growing the Grand Final experience out of your seat,” Mr Kerry said.

“While the ultimate focus will always be on what happens in the middle of ANZ Stadium at game time, the event experience will now be much greater.

“Once you enter the precinct on Grand Final Day, you will enjoy a raft of activities including live entertainment, multiple food and beverage options and special kids and family fun zones.”

Mr Kerry said a pop-up Eat Street and wine bar area with live music, themed team bars with the footy action on big screens, corporate supporter group marquees, team merchandise areas, coffee shops and a wide variety of football-related activities were planned.

“The fans will be engaged throughout NRL Grand Final Day which we believe can grow to rival any sporting event in the world,” he said.
