On first glance Sunday’s match between the Rabbitohs and Eels at ANZ Stadium seems like a dead rubber, with one team already secured in the top eight and the other on the verge of the wooden spoon, but this battle will be as hard-fought as any in Round 25.

Chris Sandow exited the Rabbitohs last season on a big money deal in a bid to help deliver the Eels a premiership, but fast forward 12 months and things couldn’t be more different.

Tonight on NRL Daily, hosts John Gibbs and Trent Barrett take a look at Sandow’s first season in blue and gold and preview the Round 25 match between the Rabbitohs and the Eels.

“Sandow has had a mini lift in the last couple of weeks for the Eels,” says Gibbs. “There is no doubting he’ll be keen to spoil the Bunnies’ party.

“He will love nothing more than to have a hand in the Rabbitohs missing a top four position and making amends for being shown up in Round 15 the last time he went head to head with Adam Reynolds.

“Who could forget the hugely symbolic moment when Chris Sandow intercepted a loose Rabbitohs pass and ran the full length of the field only to be tackled into touch by a desperate Adam Reynolds?

“There is no doubt this will be the hardest Chris Sandow has tried all year.”

Barrett highlights the fact that Reynolds only got an opportunity through Sandow’s departure from the club and “like all good players he has made the most of it”.

“Sandow would not have anticipated the poor season experienced by the Eels,” Barrett said. “But these things happen in the game. Things will get better.”
