We might not all be able to tackle like Hindy, run like Hindy or score tries like Hindy but fans farewelling the Parramatta legend this Sunday can sure look like him, with raft of special edition merchandise hitting the club’s store this week.
Topping the shopping list is the “Hindy Be-hind-y” which has already shipped 1300 ‘pairs’ ensuring there’ll be plenty of tongue-in-cheek fun to be had when going for the 32-year-old’s trademark look.
Apart from paying tribute to the most famous crack in Rugby League, the Eels have two special edition jerseys on-sale to commemorate the illustrious careers of both Hindmarsh, and the club’s point-scoring record holder Luke Burt.
The Eels team wore the ‘Farewell Burt’ jersey last week against South Sydney while this Sunday the team will don the ‘Farewell Hindmarsh’ jersey which features on its front a print of the man himself bearing his famous No.11.
For the pool room, there’s even a special edition memorabilia piece which will feature a strip of his match-worn jersey from his final game, personally signed and presented in a deluxe presentation frame.
For 262-game veteran Burt, having the Eels team wear a jersey commemorating his career was another highlight in what has already been an emotional conclusion to the 2012 season.
He didn’t miss an opportunity for one of many final-week quips at his old mate Hindmarsh, too.
“I felt really honoured to have the team wearing the jersey, it meant a lot to me,” Burt said.
“It’s definitely something I’ll hang on to forever and hopefully others who picked one up like it too.”
“I know Hindy feels the same about the jersey we’re wearing this week.
“I’m not sure we need to see his ugly behind any more but I guess we’ll endure it for this week!!”
The Eels’ merchandise store has extended its trading hours this week to cope with demand and is expecting a bumper week of sales leading up to Sunday’s blockbuster showdown against St George Illawarra at ANZ Stadium.
