Each team has one player who can turn a game on its head and secure victory with an amazing play, and for the Rabbitohs that X-Factor is Greg Inglis.
To celebrate the finals, NRL.com has launched a new NRL X-Factors application, where fans can vote on their favourite X-Factor in a head-to-head battle.
Wearing jersey number 19, a gangly Inglis celebrates his NRL debut with a try in the right corner in the 44th minute off a Cameron Smith assist; however it’s not enough to prevent the Storm falling 26-14 to the Wests Tigers.
2. Week 2 Finals, 2005
The rugby league world gets its first taste of Inglis’ trademark towering torpedo bomb as the Storm bow out of the premiership race 24-16.
3. Round 6, 2006
Inglis scores his first hat-trick of tries – all in the space of six minutes from the 60-minute mark – exactly one year after making his first grade debut. And it’s a familiar face that assists him with his second four-pointer, with now Rabbitohs team-mate Mick Crocker delivering the final pass 30 metres out. The Storm would go on to thrash Penrith 40-18.
4. Round 13, 2006
Inglis scores a 70-metre solo try to help the Storm defeat the Roosters 20-16. With seven minutes left to play Inglis grabs a pass from halfback Cooper Cronk one off the scrum then tramples over the opposition.
5. Round 12, 2007
GI steams through to challenge for a bomb in Souths’ in-goal, juggles the ball in the air before gaining control just in time to dot down for a spectacular try as the Storm emerge 26-10 winners.
6. Grand Final, 2007
Playing five-eighth, Inglis wins the Churchill Medal after a destructive performance that includes two tries, two line-breaks and a try assist as the Storm defeat Manly 34-8 in the decider. His standout moment comes when he stands up Manly fullback Brett Stewart on a 60-metre sprint to the line.
7. Grand Final Qualifier, 2008
Inglis pulls out all stops in a crucial last three minutes, firstly mowing down Ben Hannant with a crucial try-saving tackle then scoring the match-winner inside 60 seconds of fulltime.
8. Round 1, 2009
With Inglis leading the way the Storm again prove to be a bogy opponent for St George Illawarra in Wayne Bennett’s first NRL match in charge of the Red V. First Inglis pushes off would-be defender Jamie Soward to score, before he secures his side the competition points with a field goal in golden point.
9. Round 15, 2010
Inglis plays a huge role as the Storm demolish North Queensland 58-12. His astute football brain and blistering pace go on show when he snatches an intercept in the 28th minute and races 90 metres to snuff out a potential Cowboys comeback.
10. Round 20, 2012
Inglis’ incredible strength in defence is on display when he prevents Dragons centre Chase Stanley from scoring a try that would have got St George Illawarra back into the match. With Souths ahead 16-4 Inglis rolls his opponent over to prevent a crucial grounding.
