Manly centre Steve Matai will miss Friday night's elimination final against the North Queensland Cowboys after he accepted an early guilty plea for a grade two careless high tackle.

Tonight on NRL Daily host John Gibbs takes a look at how the Sea Eagles will fare without one of their strike weapons.

"The centre position is so important particularly in defence, it's very underrated," said Gibbs.

With Jamie Lyon in serious doubt, Gibbs believes  the Sea Eagles can't afford to lose two players.

"You can't just move a winger into the centres," he said. "It's a totally different dynamic and there is a reason why most tries are scored through that channel of the field.

"There will be no room for error up against two of the finest centres in the competition in Linnett and Tate."

Also on tonight's show we speak with Canberra forward Tom Learoyd-Lahrs and continue the countdown of the top 30 players of the season.
