Sydney Roosters playmaker, Daniel Mortimer, has starred in the final minutes of today’s VB NSW Cup Elimination Semi Final, stealing the match and helping keep the Newtown Jets in the hunt for a potential premiership.

Leading 30 – 24 heading into the final 5 minutes of the game, North Sydney look set to take out the game before Mortimer found his way through some tired Bears defence to level the game.  A penalty goal then in the final minutes of the match allowed the Jets half and captain steal the game.

Newtown will now take on minor premiers, the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs, for a spot in the Grand Final.

In the other match, the Balmain Ryde-Eastwood Tigers pulled together a dominant second half to run out 29 – 20 victors.

Scrapping into the Finals at the end of the regular season, the Tigers have been in a different side in this year’s Finals series, removing the 5th placed Windsor Wolves the previous week before knocking off the fourth placed Magpies on Sunday.
