The VB NSW Cup Preliminary Finals kicks off with a tantalizing clash when the Newcastle Knights take on the Balmain-Ryde Eastwood Tigers at Leichhardt Oval this Sunday.

The Newcastle Knights, who have been one of the form teams of the competition in the later half of the year, take on the giant killers, the Tigers who have already knocked off the Windsor Wolves (5th) and Wentworthville Magpies (4th) after only just scrapping into the Finals Series.

Heading into the game, the Knights are set to name a near full strength squad with only Peter Mata’utia, Kyle O’Donnell, Siuatonga Likiliki and Marvin Filipo on the injury list.  The Tigers will continue to stick with a similar squad to what has already delivered for them this Finals Series, with Humble and Waters to again combine in the halves, and give the Wests Tigers feeder a strong platform for attack.

Josh Davis will come into the match for the Tigers for the injured Jy Hitchcox.

The winner of the clash will progress to the 2012 VB NSW Cup Grand Final at ANZ Stadium on Sunday September 30.
