The 2013 representative weekend is in the books, with the majority of DT superstars making it through relatively unscathed. Origin is just around the corner, so now is the perfect opportunity to set up your team for the testing weeks ahead.

Let’s take a look at those players you should be investing in, holding or letting go, as well as some of the better captaincy options for Round 7.

Buy

Corey Parker | 2RF | $449,700

As I mentioned in the DT Review, Parker has really performed well thus far in 2013. Just under 11% of coaches own the Broncos lock, but with a BE of 29 and an average of 61.3 in his last three games, I expect that total to rise this week. The big question mark is around Origin. Even if he does play, he’s proven he’s a keeper - look to your wider squad during that time.

Jarryd Hayne | WFB/HLF | $318,200

Things weren’t looking good for Hayne owners a few weeks ago, but for those without the Parramatta fullback, now is the time to buy. He has well and truly bottomed out in price, and historically scores well against the Panthers. A BE of 24 is well within his grasp. However, the Origin question is relevant here too. There is a very strong chance Hayne will play, meaning you’ll be without him for Rounds 15 and 18 at best. If you’re blessed with good squad depth, seriously consider boarding the Hayne Plane this week.

Hold

Ryan Hinchcliffe | HOK/2RF | $331,600

The news of Hinchcliffe’s injury was a big blow for both the Storm and DT coaches who looked at the versatile forward as a point of difference. He was also very likely to flourish during the Origin period, starting at hooker for his club side (if he wasn’t picked for NSW) in the absence of Cameron Smith. He’s expected to return in Round 13, right in the thick of the Origin period, so if you’ve got cover, hide him away and hold on the bench for now.

Lewis Brown | 2RF/CTR | $243,000

With a major reshuffle at the Panthers, Brown has again found himself starting in the centres. While many coaches will be tempted to cash in now, I’d consider holding for this week at least. With a BE of 14, there’s still a price rise on the cards, and even though his scoring potential is somewhat diminished playing further out wide, Brown still can produce the goods.

Sell

Liam Fulton | 2RF | $355,300

One of the hottest properties this pre-season, many coaches were relying on Fulton to score well as a premium 2RF without the likes of Chris Heighington and Gareth Ellis no longer at the club. Returning from injury this week, he has been named on the bench, a cruel blow for those who decided to stick solid with the Tigers second rower. If he’s still in your side, it really might be time to consider your options elsewhere.

Josh Mansour | WFB | $294,500

One of last year’s prime cash cows, Mansour has kicked on in 2013, continuing to score well on the wing thanks predominantly to tackle breaks and metres gained despite the Panthers lurking at the bottom of the ladder. However, a knee injury means he’ll be out until Round 12, so it shapes as the perfect time to either downgrade to a rookie, or even a straight swap to Hayne might be on the cards.

Round 7 Captains - players to consider

  • Cameron Smith | HOK | $534,900
  • Daly Cherry-Evans | HLF | $459,600
  • Robbie Farah | HOK | $491,500
  • James Maloney | HLF | $444,900
  • Corey Parker | 2RF | $449,700
  • Wildcard: Jarryd Hayne | WFB/HLF | $318,200
