NRL CEO Mr Dave Smith today said South Sydney’s record-breaking membership culture was laying the platform for a new era of crowd growth in Rugby League.

In congratulating the Rabbitohs for becoming the first Sydney club to achieve 25,000 members, Mr Smith highlighted the importance of membership in achieving packed stadiums week in, week out in the years ahead.

“It is no coincidence that the biggest attendances this year have featured clubs with strong membership cultures,” Mr Smith said.

“This is a time to be setting aggressive targets that will begin to realise Rugby League’s amazing potential.

“We want to double membership over the next five years and the Rabbitohs have shown what can be done.

“Congratulations to the Rabbitohs and every one of their 25,000 members.

“Membership is the best way to support your club and make it successful.”

More than 35,000 fans are set to converge on Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane tomorrow night for a Telstra Premiership blockbuster featuring the two clubs with the biggest memberships in the NRL – the Rabbitohs and Broncos.

It is not too late to become a 2013 NRL Club Member. Simply log on to www.nrl.com/membership, or contact your favourite NRL club.
