Patrician Brothers College Blacktown has sounded a warning alarm to the rest of the GIO Schoolboy Cup with a comprehensive 86-0 victory over Farrer Memorial Agricultural High School in the competition’s first match in Blacktown today.
Patrician Brothers showed their class by crossing the line nine times in the first half, before adding another eight in the second.
Halfback Sione Tonga and Penrith’s Holden Cup fullback Dallin Watene-Zelezniak both scored hatricks.
Tonga, who was named the GIO Most Trusted Player for the match, credited the barnstorming victory to the sizeable Patrician Brothers crowd.
“You really notice how much their support means, everyone is out to beat the champions,” Tonga said.
Farrer coach Damien Kenniff is still confident his young side can compete in their forthcoming rounds of the GIO Cup, “we just have to keep working hard, this is the best pathway for our school.”
Westfield Sports High will meet with Hills Sports High in the next match of the series on Wednesday 5 June at New Era Stadium Cabramatta.
