A brilliant second half comeback by Endeavour Sports High today saw them win their first fixture against Matraville Sports High in the GIO Schoolboys Cup coming home strong with four unanswered tries in the latter half to win 26-12.
Endeavour captain Paul Momirovski was happy with his team's win but said there were a few things his side needed to work on for their next game.
“I thought the boys really dug in well for the whole 60 minutes,” Momirovski said.
“We need to push each other a little bit more and as I said get to the game from the start not just the second half of each half.”
Completion rates were also a problem for Matraville who were unable to continue their momentum after scoring two converted tries in the first ten minutes of the game.
Liam Coleman, Matraville captain, said besides several handling errors, his side played well.
“We played strong as a team but just couldn’t hold on there in the end,” he said.
“We’ve been trying our training around ball security but it was a bit slippery out here and that and a few silly errors came out of us,” Coleman said.
GIO most trusted player Clayton Williams said he concentrated on carrying the ball forward but agreed with his captain that there are areas of their game like their completion rate that needs improving.
The next GIO Schoolboys fixtures will be played tomorrow, June 12. Illawarra SH will take on Bass High at WIN Stadium while Westfields SH will play Patrician Brothers Blacktown at New Era Stadium, Cabramatta. Both games will kick-off at 1pm.
