The Panthers will have to try and win without Tim Grant this week.

New signings Sika Manu and James Segeyaro scored the Panthers’ first two tries in a big win over the Raiders in Round 1 at Centrebet Stadium.

It was the try by replacement hooker Segeyaro right on halftime that was the key, giving the Panthers a 12-6 lead going to the break and setting the Raiders right back on their heels.

The Panthers were never headed after that, and although the Raiders hung in there for most of the second half the Panthers blew the score out with two tries in the last five minutes of a 32-10 victory.

Halfback Luke Walsh was sharp for the Panthers, both with his kicking in general play and for goal. He landed six goals from six attempts.

It was to be Raiders fullback Josh Dugan’s last game for the club. He was sacked soon after for disciplinary reasons.
