Hayne excited by Arthur signing
Parramatta Eels fullback Jarryd Hayne has thrown his support behind the announcement of Brad Arthur as the new coach of the embattled club.
Arthur, a former assistant coach with the Eels, Melbourne and most recently Manly, has agreed to a three-year deal with Parramatta from next season.
Talking to NRL.com from the Kangaroos base in Manchester, Hayne says the appointment means the club can move forward and start preparing for the 2014 season and beyond.
"It is exciting news with Brad being appointed," Hayne told NRL.com.
"He has been at the club before and worked with a lot of the boys before.
"He is obviously very intense, he has been under Craig Bellamy and [that] has obviously had a huge influence on the way he coaches, and Geoff Toovey as well.
"I think he has learned a lot over there and they are probably the two best teams over the last decade, Manly and Melbourne."
The Eels coaching role has been something of a poisoned chalice in recent times with six different coaches being called upon in as many years.
The club also earned the dubious honour of claiming their second consecutive wooden spoon in 2013.
But Hayne believes the appointment of Arthur is a step in the right direction.
"It is good to get the coach in and look forward," Hayne said.
"He is a very intense coach, very fair. He is all about the team and he is always willing to listen and do what is best for the team."
