The National Rugby League has taken a key step in strengthening the game’s strategic marketing capability announcing Mr Lewis Pullen, former Executive Manager of Marketing for Qantas Airways, as the NRL’s new Head of Marketing, Digital and Content.

With an international track record in marketing, Lewis has experience in managing iconic brands. He has specialised expertise in content creation, production and digital customer engagement. He has worked extensively in the sports world through his management of airline sports sponsorships, and has strong relationships with the game’s major broadcast and media partners.

Lewis’s appointment ensures a greater resourcing of the game’s marketing area and will see him work closely with the NRL Head of Commercial Mr Paul Kind and the marketing teams at every level of the game.

“We have been committed to building a team that can grow the game significantly in the years ahead,” NRL Chief Executive Mr Dave Smith said today.

“Lewis’s experience in strategic brand marketing and digital content is the perfect fit for what we are looking to achieve in growing the value of Rugby League.

“With Jim Doyle, Todd Greenberg, Paul Kind, Mark Wilson, Shane Mattiske and Nick Weeks we are putting together a team that can unlock the game’s true potential.”

Lewis will begin work with the NRL in December.

“Rugby League is a great game,” he said today. “As a passionate fan of, and active participator in sport, I feel very privileged to have this opportunity to work with such a great brand.”

“Marketing and business strategies start with the customer and in Rugby League that begins with understanding the needs of the fans.

“There are more and more new ways to engage directly with these fans in the digital world and opportunities to create unique content.

“I’m looking forward to the transformation challenge and to working with an impressive team that is focussed on realising the full potential of Rugby League.”
