1st minute: A drop ball from Papua New Guinea prop Larsen Marabe on the second hit-up of the game set the tone for a horror opening for the Kumuls. Samoa prop Suaia Matagi crashes over next to the posts not long after. Milford converts and Samoa lead 6-0. 

10th minute: A mistake by winger Josiah Abavu leads to Tim Lafai's flick pass for Winterstein who dives over in the corner. Milford's sideline attempt hits the upright, 10-0. 

15th minute: More drop ball from the Kumuls, this time from David Mead. Four plays later, Joey Leilua shrugs off four tacklers and puts Pita Godinet over. Milford converts and Samoa are beating the clock, 16-0. 

24th minute: To the delight of the Craven Park crowd, a PNG shift to the right sees Nene McDonald cross, but the final pass is forward. 

25th minute: One minute later and the Samoans are in. Winterstein gets his second in the left corner after another damaging run from Leilua on the right. This time Milford nails it from the sideline, extending their lead to 22-0. 

29th minute: Jessie Joe Nandye almost gets a hand to a Ray Thompson grubber but Anthony Milford bats it dead just in time. Referee Shayne Hayne rules dropout, but is over-ruled and it's a 20-metre tap. 

31st minute: Leilua is first to Penani Manumalealii's grubber into the in-goal but can't ground it. 

34th minute: The Kumuls can't take a trick. Richard Kambo dives under the posts but Ray Thompson is ruled to have knocked-on in the lead-up. 

38th minute: A back-breaker. Ben Roberts plucks an Alex Chan chip kick from the air and gallops 60 metres to score under the posts. Milford converts and Samoa go into halftime with a 28-0 lead. 

46th minute: The crowd roars when Nandye finally posts the first points for PNG. The second-rower starts the play with a cut-out that sees winger Abavu in the clear before Nandye backs up to cross. Israel Eliab takes the goalkicking duties, but misses a simple one. 28-4. 

61st minute: After a sloppy start to the second half for Samoa, Sauaso Sue crashes over the line. Hayne quickly awards the try, but replays show Sue lost it. Milford converts, extending their lead to 34-4. 

69th minute: PNG's left edge suddenly causing Samoa fits as Mead finds space and scores, only for video referee Ashley Klein to correctly rule an obstruction in the lead-up. 

73rd minute: Nandye almost gets his second buts loses the ball with tryline in sight. 

79th minute: Winterstein completes his hat trick, pouncing on a Roberts grubber. Milford misses the conversion. Final score, 38-4.
