The National Rugby League has appointed senior communications and corporate affairs specialist Sandy Olsen as Head of Media and Communications.

Sandy’s appointment is a major step in the restructuring of the NRL Executive team as it positions the game for unprecedented growth in coming years.

In a career that has included government, industry and corporate consulting roles Sandy has been part of businesses driving growth and change in competitive environments.

Over the past decade she has led the corporate affairs activity for Infrastructure NSW; Australia’s largest cruise company, Carnival Australia; and major utility, EnergyAustralia.

As a journalist she has reported in the NSW press gallery and worked across major rounds.

“Sandy is a strong acquisition for the game and we are delighted to have her join the Executive,” NRL Chief Executive Dave Smith said.

“Media and Communications is a key area for our game and Sandy brings a great deal of experience in Corporate Affairs as well as a real passion for the sport.”

Sandy takes up her new role with the NRL on January 13.

“This is one of the most dynamic Media and Communications roles imaginable and for someone who has grown up with Rugby League it is a real opportunity,” she said.

“I am looking forward to working with Dave, the Executive and the clubs to promote the positive changes taking place in the game.”
