With first-choice fullback Lachlan Coote out for an extended period, Cowboys coach Paul Green will use this weekend's trial against the Titans to look at all his Round 1 options.

Sharks recruit Matthew Wright, and youngsters Zac Santo and Javid Bowen - nephew of club legend Matt - will all see time at fullback in Toowoomba on Saturday night.

Green named a 20-man squad, including co-captains Johnathan Thurston and Matt Scott, for what will be their final hit-out before the season proper.

Winger Kyle Feldt has also been name despite suffering a hamstring injury during the Auckland Nines that ruled him out of the grand final.

Second-rower Gavin Cooper has been rested, while Curtis Rona and Rory Kostjasyn will also miss the game after picking up minor injuries last weekend.

Coote joined North Queensland over the summer after five years in Penrith and was slated to start in Matt Bowen's jersey before he ruptured his ACL in the Auckland Nines last weekend. He will be out for six months.

Cowboys squad: Scott Bolton, Javid Bowen, Kyle Feldt, Glenn Hall, Cameron King, Kane Linnett, Robert Lui, Michael Morgan, Joel Reithmuller, Zac Santo, Matt Scott (c), Ashton Sims, Tariq Sims, James Tamou, Brent Tate, Jason Taumalolo, Ray Thompson, Johnathan Thurston (c), Antonio Winterstein, Matthew Wright.
