The Canberra Raiders have named two rookies in their Round 1 team to take on North Queensland in Townsville on Saturday night, with Matt Allwood and Shannon Boyd included in the 18 players to play the Cowboys.

Allwood will definitely start for the Raiders at right centre, while Boyd will start from the interchange bench.

The Raiders have a new look halves pairing to begin the new season with skipper Terry Campese moving to halfback, while Jack Wighton gets his first opportunity to play at five-eighth at NRL level after a successful time in the six jersey as a junior.

Edrick Lee makes a return to the NRL team after missing the majority of last season with a broken arm, while Glen Buttriss will start the match at hooker and Josh McCrone will come from the bench.

Mark Nicholls has been named 18th man.
