The NRL has congratulated the Rabbitohs after the club passed 30,000 members last night - the largest membership base in the history of the game.

“This is a wonderful achievement and is a great example of the Rabbitoh’s commitment to the club’s fans and members,” NRL Head of Marketing, Mr Lewis Pullen said.

“In the last five years the Rabbitohs have doubled their membership numbers, which is an outstanding accomplishment.

"What a significant milestone, not only for the Rabbitohs but for the game itself.”

This season NRL clubs have seen a 25 per cent growth in membership, with clubs having total memberships  of 237,819 members.

For the first time all Sydney based NRL clubs now have more than 9000 members, with success stories including the Penrith Panthers having increased its membership by a whopping 115 per cent.

“Seeing results like the Rabbitohs and the Panthers helps spur us on to continue to ensure we provide the best possible product for our members and show the value of becoming an NRL club member to our fans,” Mr Pullen said.

“NRL clubs continue to provide tailored membership packages as the game moves deeper into the season which provide great opportunities to ensure fans know they are part of the team.”

The NRL Club Membership Race closes on Tuesday 20 May with winners to be announced prior the start of the 2014 Holden State of Origin Series.
