17. 2003: First game at new Suncorp Stadium

The brand-spanking new Suncorp Stadium was unveiled for the world to see. Yet it was an unhappy welcoming for the Maroons and the adoring home fans. Dubbed 'the Sandpit' Justin Hodges and Paul Bowman succumbed to serious knee injuries later deemed to be due to the faulty surface. Adding to Queensland's worries, NSW halfback Andrew Johns led the Blues to a 25-12 win – scoring 13 points in the process which would kick-start another Blues Series win.
