The NRL today welcomed the Federal Court’s decision to dismiss Sports Data’s attempt to prevent the NRL’s official statistics provider, Prozone from providing official game statistics to the NRL, its clubs and other key stakeholders.

An NRL spokesman said the Court’s decision provides further confirmation of the NRL’s determination to provide the best statistics solution for the game and particularly its clubs.

Prozone is a word-class statistics provider and the NRL’s partnership with Prozone will ensure these objectives are achieved.

“The game relies on statistical information and data provided by Prozone for a range of analytical purposes including innovation, player welfare and analysis of the rules,” the spokesman said.

“Our clubs are particularly reliant on statistics to analyse team and individual player performance.

“It was always our view that there was no proper basis for Sports Data’s claims.

“The NRL welcomes the Court’s decision.”
