Sunday’s win made it six victories from their past seven but the reigning premiers are playing down their growing momentum as they look to become the first back-to-back premiers since Brisbane in 1992-93.
The Roosters ran out 32-12 winners over a disjointed Storm side to record just their second win in Melbourne from their past nine trips.
A 16-nil first half set up the victory which propelled the Tri-colours to fourth spot on the NRL ladder.
The visitors dominated the play with 54 per cent of possession, with their trademark watertight defence restricting the Storm to 1088 metres throughout the afternoon.
Their shaky start to the season may now be well in the rear-view mirror but Roosters captain Anthony Minichiello says his troops have work ahead of them to repeat their title feat in 2014.
“I think there is still a lot more improvement to go,” said Minichiello. “I thought at times we looked good and we flowed nicely but our completion rate [68 per cent] wasn’t the best.
“There are still things we need to work on but all in all there was some positive stuff.”
The skipper appears to be scoring tries for fun this season. Minichiello scored the first and last try of Sunday’s win to extend his try tally in 2014 to nine.
Last year the veteran fullback scored six tries all season.
Despite the 34-year-old’s increased yield at the attacking end, he admits it was not a string he was looking to add to his bow.
“I have sort of been in the right spot at the right time I suppose,” said Minichiello. “You don’t set out on the season to score tries, it is to support well. That was one of my focuses [Sunday] - to support the forwards.”
The Roosters will host the Knights this Saturday night at Allianz Stadium.
