NRL congratulates Honours recipients
The NRL today congratulated Rugby League identities, including Phil Gould and Ray Warren, for being recognised with Queen’s Birthday honours.
NRL CEO Dave Smith also paid tribute to Roosters Chairman Nick Politis and Penrith stalwart Don Feltis who were awarded honours.
Mr Smith said all four men had made huge contributions to Rugby League and deserved their awards.
“Everyone knows that Phil Gould is one of the most knowledgeable people in our game and he entertains so many people with his commentary,” he said.
“But Phil also does so much to help young people, he promotes the game in developing nations and assists many charities.
“So he is a worthy recipient.”
Mr Smith said Ray Warren had been part of Rugby League since the 1970s and would go down as one of the best commentators the game has seen.
“Rabs is a fabulous caller and it is great that his contribution to the game has been recognised,” he said.
Mr Smith said Mr Feltis and Mr Politis both had a distinguished history in the game and had helped to make the Panthers and Roosters the successes they are today.
“Rugby League plays a big part in the lives of many people and it is rewarding to see those who put so much into the game being recognised like this,” Mr Smith said.
