An extraordinary season in which he played for two Intrust Super Cup clubs, received his first senior representative call-up and signed a contract with the Canberra Raiders has culminated with Luke Page being awarded The Courier-Mail Medal as the competition's best and fairest for 2014.
The Courier-Mail Medal was the feature award at the QRL Gala Awards dinner on Wednesday night where a total of 14 awards were handed out, two of which went to players from competition newcomers, the PNG Hunters.
But the major plaudits of the night went the way of Page who started the season with the Burleigh Bears before switching to the Souths Logan Magpies when he was offered a contract with the Raiders, his call-up to the NRL prevented only by second-tier salary cap constraints in the nation's capital.
A whole-hearted front-rower who came through the ranks at the Gold Coast Titans and represented Queensland Residents this year, Page polled three votes in the final game of the season to edge out Norths playmaker Todd Murphy and PNG skipper Israel Eliab.
The Courier-Mail Medal is judges by the referees who allocate votes on a 3-2-1 basis after each Intrust Super Cup match.
Recent recipients include Daly Cherry-Evans (2010), Javarn White (2011), Luke Capewell (2012) and Cody Walker (2013).
