The Titans have secured two exciting young prospects effective immediately with both Nene MacDonald and Chad Redman being granted releases from their former clubs to move to the Gold Coast.
With the hooking stocks suffering such a heavy injury toll at the club former Knights No.9 Redman could make his debut for the club as early as Saturday's crucial clash with the Warriors at Cbus Super Stadium as an accompaniment to Daniel Mortimer.
Redman recently knocked back a one-year deal to stay at Newcastle in order to pursue more regular NRL football with the Titans but at this stage is signed only until the end of the 2015 season.
MacDonald's addition to the Titans' roster also encompasses the 2016 season and the former Roosters flyer said he was excited at what the future holds on the Gold Coast over the next two years.
"I'm excited to get this opportunity to hopefully play NRL with the Titans," said MacDonald who represented Papua New Guinea on the Gold Coast over the rep weekend last month. "I think the Titans are a club that is improving with some young players on the rise."
MacDonald previously played with the Titans in the Mal Meninga Cup under-18s before being recruited by the Roosters and played alongside current Titan Lachlan Burr in the 2011 Australian Schoolboys team.
While disappointed to see him leave the club after joining the Roosters in 2012, Roosters head of football, Brian Canavan, said they couldn't stand in the way of the 21-year-old pursuing NRL football elsewhere.
"The club's decision to grant him a release was based on what we consider in the best interests of his long-term playing future," Canavan said.
“Nene has a lot to offer the NRL and he certainly leaves with our very best wishes for the future."
Redman is a Newcastle junior who scored the match-sealing try for the Knights on debut against Wests Tigers in Round 10 and played one more NRL match for the Knights.
The 22-year-old is also a former Australian Schoolboy representative, playing in the same team as injured Titans halfback Kane Elgey in 2010.
