The NRL will investigate allegations that undisclosed third party payments have been made to players at the Parramatta club.

Head of Integrity Nick Weeks said salary cap auditors will take up the matter, disclosed in the Sydney Morning Herald today, with the Parramatta club.

"The salary cap is one of the main reasons we have the closest sporting competition in Australia," Mr Weeks said.

"We have already shown that we are prepared to take a hard line against breaches and these allegations will be investigated by the salary cap auditors."

Mr Weeks said the recent salary cap penalties and conditions imposed on the Parramatta club would give the NRL enhanced access to player remuneration records.

"If these allegations are confirmed then the NRL will take appropriate action to ensure the integrity of the competition," he said.
