The Blues and Maroons headed to Melbourne for State of Origin II, a fixture which NSW come out on top after a few controversial decisions left Queensland ruing a missed opportunity to wrap up the series. In the aftermath the great wall of Brisbane came together in Melbourne with the Broncos somehow managing to hold out a desperate Storm team to secure a slender win. The Prince of Brookvale Brett Stewart took the Manly captaincy in his stride as he led the Sea Eagles to victory over the Tigers. Shaun Johnson stole the show on the Gold Coast while fellow halfback Johnathan Thurston secured the chocolates in a frantic affair in the nation's capital. Rounding out the weekend the Roosters continued their great form by kick-starting the Dragons' mid-year woes.
