Jack Bird gets an offload away against Parramatta.

Last season's NRL Rookie of the Year Jack Bird has signed a new deal with the Cronulla Sharks, keeping him at the club until at least the end of 2017.

Bird, 20, made his debut in Round 4 last season and remained in the Sharks' team for the rest of the year.

Having played the bulk of last season at five-eighth, Bird could make a switch to the centres or even fullback this season.

"I always knew I was going to sign here, I just didn’t know when," Bird told sharks.com.au.

"I'm pretty excited about the year ahead and happy to announce I'll be in the black, white and blue for the next two years."
