Cronulla say they will investigate a worrying incident right on full-time that saw the young son of player Chris Heighington run down by a buggy on the outfield, though thankfully the child appears to be OK.
Players rushed to lift the buggy – used to collect signage post-game – off three-year-old Rocco before he was taken to be checked by paramedics, though early reports were that he appeared to be largely unharmed aside from a cut inside his mouth.
"The doctor said he's OK. I think they're still checking him out. He's only a little kid and you can't tell them too much what's wrong with him," Sharks coach Shane Flanagan said in the post-match press conference.
Flanagan described the incident – which occurred immediately after full-time in his team's 25-20 win – as "terrible" and "concerning".
Skipper Paul Gallen was doing a sideline radio interview at the time but said it was "a pretty distressing sight."
"It didn't look good but the boys were there pretty quickly, tilted the buggy on the side and got him out. I can't imagine what Heighno must feel. It didn't look great, but as Flanno said, thankfully, it looks like he's OK."
Flanagan said there would certainly be a debrief as the club investigated exactly what happened.
"They'll find out how it happened and all that sort of stuff. I'll leave that to [chief executive] Lyall [Gorman] and his men.
"I don't want to comment because I don't know. I didn't see it, but we'll make sure we find out why and how. "
