Player poll: Favourite away venues
With the Storm and Sea Eagles playing 'home' games at Suncorp Stadium and the Dragons' Sydney base getting a name change to UOW Jubilee Oval, we thought we'd ask the game's biggest names which away venues they most enjoy playing at.
Jacob Lillyman (Warriors)
Townsville because it's always good to go back and play against your old club, and I have still got family and friends there. It's good to get to 1300SMILES Stadium and be reminded of the humidity up there and how much of a toll it takes on the body!
Sam Thaiday (Broncos)
I love playing at AAMI Park. I reckon it's the perfect size stadium and when we're playing down there we tend to get a fairly big crowd. I also like the challenge of the fact that it's hard to win there as well. The cow bells don't put me off. I remember the old Olympic Park back in the day and it was just a mad fan that used to bang them but they don't put me off at all.
Latrell Mitchell (Roosters)
Suncorp Stadium because it's just so close. Everyone gets to their games so it's always packed. I've played a couple of games up there. The 20s Origin is a standout moment for me when we won up there. The big crowd just pumps you up and the atmosphere is great.
Jonathan Wright (Warriors)
I would have to say Suncorp Stadium. It's a massive stadium and a cathedral for rugby league. That's my big game and I love the atmosphere there.
Brenton Lawrence (Sea Eagles)
As a Queenslander Suncorp's a great place to play footy any time and sold out on Saturday night, it will be even better. My dad took me to Suncorp a couple of times as a young bloke to watch the Broncos play, he took me on the hill at Hunter Stadium a couple of times and I do remember sitting on the hill at Adelaide Oval watching the Adelaide Rams.
Ryan James (Titans)
I actually think our ground is probably the best pitch in the NRL but I always like going over to New Zealand. We played there last year on Anzac Day and it was an excellent atmosphere. They've got the hill on each end and people can go old school and sit on the hill or sit in the grandstand, it just has a great feel about it.
Josh Reynolds (Bulldogs)
I love playing at Suncorp Stadium. It's an awesome stadium just how the crowd is always on you like a cauldron. I've played some pretty big games there and the noise is always unreal. Game One in 2014 when we won the Origin series is the highlight. That was definitely the hardest game I've ever played in so I'll never forget that one.
Joe Ofahengaue (Broncos)
Mt Smart Stadium in New Zealand; that would have to be my favourite because I get to see my family. Nearly all of them turn up, they're always asking for tickets when I go over there. We've got a few Kiwis in our team now too so we had to split the tickets up this year.
Adam Reynolds (Rabbitohs)
The SFS (Allianz Stadium) because it's so close to home that it feels like another home game. I grew up watching Souths across there and got to walk across there with the family so it always brings back good memories. I haven't played too many games there but obviously scoring one on the bell against the Roosters in 2012 is a massive highlight. We beat Manly in semi-finals footy over there a few years ago as well. When I was a young kid I got to play there. You always look up to your idols so any time you get the chance to share the field with your heroes is a special time.
Kierran Moseley (Titans)
I'd have to say 1300SMILES Stadium in North Queensland. I love getting back up there with all my mates and the family come across for the trip.
Jordan Rankin (Wests Tigers)
You can't go past Suncorp, it's just the bread and butter of rugby league. It has been for a very long time. That place holds a lot of memories for a lot of teams and a lot of people. It keeps bringing in 30,000 people a game and if you ask any player that's one ground they want to play at and you can't blame them.
Jordan Kahu (Broncos)
I'd have to say Mt Smart Stadium. I love going home and the field back there is always really nice so it's a good field to play at. I've only been lucky enough to play there twice now but every time I've gone there I've loved it. Most of my family always come up from Wellington so it makes it even more special.
