Mackay hooker Josh Chudleigh.

Mackay hooker Josh Chudleigh has capped a memorable 2016 by being named the winner of the Courier-Mail Medal at the Queensland Rugby League's annual awards night in Brisbane on Wednesday.

Polling well late in the season to edge clear of 2014 winner Luke Page (Burleigh) and Redcliffe pair Sam Anderson and Darren Nicholls, Chudleigh had double cause for celebration with his award as the Intrust Super Cup's best and fairest coming shortly after penning a two-year contract extension with North Queensland.

Despite the fact that the Cutters finished the regular season with the wooden spoon Chudleigh was regularly a stand-out and showed just what he has to offer in the higher grades when he scored a brilliant individual try in his one and only NRL appearance this season in Round 18 against the Raiders.

Recent Broncos debutant Jonus Pearson was named the Carbine Club Rookie of the Year for his outstanding season with Redcliffe and Burleigh's Jim Lenihan was named Coach of the Year.
