Curtis Scott says the reality of reaching the NRL Telstra Premiership's biggest day hasn't hit home yet after Melbourne's preliminary final win over the Brisbane Broncos on Friday night.
The Storm held a slender 2-0 lead in the 38th minute before the 19-year-old's no-look offload put winger Josh Addo-Carr away to score the opening try of the game. It gave the home side enough impetus to kick on and win.
"I went back to the grassroots and played a little bit of backyard footy I guess," Scott said of his key play.
"I was lucky enough Joshy was on the same edge as me, so it came off.
"I wasn’t really looking at the clock, just saw a little opportunity down the short side, and just jumped on it."
The Storm centre was up against some of the Broncos' biggest attacking threats but covered well.
"Defence wins big games," he said.
"I know that's what I focused on first. It was pretty tough up there tonight, with (Matt) Gillett and (James) Roberts. I was doing my best to do my job and shut them down.
"I don't know if it's sunk in just yet. It's every footy player's dream. Playing a grand final at 19, going onto a final is really exciting times."
Scott grew up in Sydney and is relishing the chance to play in front of friends and family when the Storm take on the Cowboys in the decider at ANZ Stadium on Sunday.
"A few of my mates will be coming out of the woodwork trying to snag a few tickets," he joked.
"It's really exciting to be playing in Sydney.
"I'm not sure what the atmosphere will be like, but the boys have told me its unreal. I'm just going to soak it up."
