Sea Eagles centre and Kangaroos hopeful Dylan Walker will miss selection for the 2017 Rugby League World Cup after undergoing ankle surgery on Monday.

Walker was part of the Australian Prime Minister's XIII side that claimed a convincing win over their Papua New Guinea counterparts, but dislocated his ankle in the 48-8 victory.

Manly confirmed the young star will spend six weeks in a moon boot before starting rehabilitation, putting an end to any chance he had of earning a spot in the Australian squad for the international showpiece.

The 22-year-old enjoyed a strong 2017 campaign with the Sea Eagles, moving back to the centres after a season spent largely in the halves, finishing with 12 tries.
