David Mead will captain the Papua New Guina Kumuls team named to play in the Rugby League World Cup, starting next month, with PNG Hunters star Ase Boas the vice captain.

James Segeyaro, Kurt Baptiste and Nene Macdonald are among the NRL players named in the squad, which also includes 10 players from the PNG Hunters side that won Queensland's Intrust Super Cup this year.

The team leaves for Fiji next Wednesday October 11 for the Tri Nations series against Australia and Fiji at the ANZ Stadium in Suva on October 14.

The Kumuls will host three World Cup games, first against Wales on October 28 then a week later against Ireland before taking on the USA on November 12. All games will be played at the Oil Search National Football Stadium in Port Moresby.
