Palmer's 'box of energy' breaks Brookvale hoodoo for Tigers

Ronnie Palmer in a box. Not exactly the secret to the Wests Tigers' giant-killing start to the season, but a great yarn nonetheless.

Knowing the Tigers hadn't won on the Northern Beaches since before Benji Marshall's debut, the game's most celebrated trainer swung into gear a day before their trip to Manly.

''I was speaking to Ivan and I was hammering home the need to come down here with plenty of energy,'' Palmer told NRL.com afterwards.

''If you come to Brookie without energy, they pull your pants down and the game is gone in 20 minutes.

''I said to Ivan, 'don't sweat it, I'll bring a box of energy, leave it with me'. I got the missus to make up a little box, it's got energy on the sides, energy written on top. I've put some confetti inside and then got into the boys. 'We've been talking all week about energy, I've brought a little bit extra for you', and threw it over them.''

Josh Reynolds reckons he still had confetti in his hair when he came off the bench 50 minutes into the game, no surprise given he copped the brunt of Palmer's inspirational shower.

No surprise really from the old 'Balmain Charmer' either, who's always been good for something a little out of the box.
