Gerard Sutton and Ashley Klein will continue the modern trend of the same referees being in charge of all three State of Origin matches when they take charge of next Wednesday's series finale in Brisbane.

Sutton and Klein, who were the on-field refs for the first two matches of 2018, were on Tuesday appointed to retain the duties for the final match of the Holden State of Origin series.

Last year, Sutton refereed all three games with Matt Cecchin after doing likewise with Ben Cummins in 2015 and 2016.

The last two there was a change during a series was in 2014 when Shayne Hayne and Cummins officiated the first two matches before Sutton got the gig for the third match.

Next Wednesday's match will be Sutton's 13th straight Origin as one of the two on-field referees.

Chris Butler and Brett Suttor will be touch judges for the match, while Steve Chiddy (senior review official) and Ben Galea (review official) will operate the NRL Bunker.

"Both referees have done a great job in the first two matches of the series so it stands to reason they will officiate in the final game," senior manager of officiating Bernard Sutton said.

"Importantly both referees have officiated well as a partnership. They deserve to finish off the series."
