Melbourne Storm legend and NRL games record holder Cameron Smith has announced his intention to play on in 2019 - an incredible 18th season in the NRL.

The 35-year-old has played 382 NRL matches in a decorated career as well as 56 Test matches and 42 State of Origin games for Queensland.

With Smith preparing next week's preliminary final against the Cronulla Sharks, News Corp are reporting that the Storm champion will lace up the boots again in 2019 and go in pursuit of the 400-game milestone.

Smith has shown throughout 2018 that he is still at the peak of his powers and his decision to play on is a huge boost for the Storm after they lost Cooper Cronk to the Roosters this year and Billy Slater's decision to retire at the end of this season.

The two-time Dally M winner (2006 and 2017) will look to lead the Storm into a third consecutive grand final when they host Cronulla next weekend, the team that beat them in the 2016 decider.
