SAM Tagataese says he wants to take himself 'to a new place' as a player after signing a one-year contract extension with the Broncos.
The 31-year-old premiership winner with the Sharks made just four appearances with Brisbane in his first year at the club.
But he was 18th man several times and his strong work ethic and reliability around a crop of young forwards at the Broncos has convinced the club to re-sign him.
Still, rather than just be a fall-back veteran, the 172-gamer has challenged himself to produce the best for of his career.
"Season 2018 wasn't what I wanted it to be," said Tagataese.
"I've been given the opportunity again so I am really grateful for that.
"I can't leave knowing I didn't put everything in.
"Even though I have been in the game for a long time 2018 was a learning stage for me.
"Coming into the Broncos really opened my eyes a lot about myself.
"It really gave me a sense of that I want to put in a lot more - just to challenge myself and see where that can take me.
A candid Tagataese said he wanted to build consistency in his play to make more impact for the Broncos.

The forward said watching the recent Invictus Games, in which wounded, injured or sick armed services personnel and their associated veterans take part in sports, had inspired him.
"There are things in my career where I need to improve," he said.
"Without putting myself into that place, into those tough moments, (it won't happen).
"I haven't peaked yet and I want to hit form where I am consistent.
"Throughout my career I haven't done that and that is what I want to achieve.
"I want to take myself to a space where I haven't been before."
Tagataese will take on one role in the club now - the oldest player in the squad after the retirement of Sam Thaiday.
He joked he would be a different kind of 'Sammy T'.
"I've got some big shoes to fill," he laughed.
"He is going to be missed - he is a larrikin and that is something I can't imitate.
"I am just going to have to be myself - but there is a new 'Sammy T' coming in.
"Hopefully I can promote some positive influence around the squad for 2019."
