Hayne charged over grand final night incident

Former Parramatta Eels star Jarryd Hayne has been charged over an incident involving a woman from the Hunter Valley on NRL grand final night.

Channel 10 and Channel 9 have each reported Hayne has been charged with "aggravated sexual assault-inflict actual bodily harm on victim" from the September 30 incident.

The NRL Integrity Unit was made aware of the situation recently and has been monitoring the situation after informing NSW Police of the incident.

Hayne went to Ryde Police Station on Monday afternoon to speak with detectives from the NSW Sex Crimes squad.

The NSW Police Force issued a statement to NRL.com to say: "Detectives from the Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad arrested a 30-year-old man at Ryde Police Station just after 4pm today (Monday 19 November 2018). No further information is available at this time."

The 30-year-old former Dally M Medal winner is no longer contracted to the Eels and was recently in discussions with Parramatta and St George Illawarra about agreeing to terms for the 2019 season.

According to the NSW Police statement: "A man has been charged by Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad over the alleged aggravated sexual assault of a woman in the Hunter region in September.

"Earlier this month, detectives from the Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad commenced an investigation after receiving reports a woman had been sexually assaulted by a man she met on social media.

"He was charged with aggravated sexual assault-inflict actual bodily harm on victim.

"Police will allege in court that the man attended a home in the Hunter region on Sunday 30 September 2018, and sexually assaulted a 26-year-old woman.

"The man has been granted strict conditional bail to appear at Burwood Local Court on Monday 10 December 2018."
