An exhibition match between Manly and Wests in Melbourne ignites a bitter feud between the clubs. For the next four years, clashes between the Manly "Silvertails" and Western Suburbs "Fibros" are among the most brutal the game has ever seen.

1998

Bill Harrigan offers to meet face-to-face with Manly coach Bob Fulton to thrash out well-publicised differences between the pair.

2003

Controversial forward Solomon Haumono is selected to make his return to top-grade rugby league with Manly after almost three years in the boxing ring.

2014

The NRL prepares to become the first sport in Australia to test players for prescription drugs. The NRL reach an agreement with the Players' Association to test for two classes of prescription drugs.

2016

Todd Greenberg is officially appointed CEO of the National Rugby League, five months after the departure of former boss Dave Smith. Four years later to the day, Greenberg found himself dealing with the biggest crisis ever to face the game as the coronavirus threatened to shut down the 2020 season and have 'catastrophic' consueqences for the game.

2020

The NSWRL and QRL announce that all grassroots football will be suspended indefinitely due to the coronavirus.

Cowboys skipper Jason Taumalolo breaks his hand during a training session and could be sidelined for a month.
