Newcastle Knights centre Tautau Moga has been fined $60,000 in the wake of a recent court appearance.
In a statement released on Monday night, the Knights said half the amount of the fine had been suspended, subject to good behaviour.
When Moga fronted Newcastle Local Court last month, he escaped having a conviction recorded for slapping a taxi driver twice after a day at Newcastle races last December.
The 25-year-old was placed on a six-month conditional release order, with the magistrate accepting Moga's crime fell within the lower range of assault and that he had expressed remorse for his actions to the victim afterwards.
Moga has already served a two-game suspension.
In the statement, the Knights added that "Moga has shown genuine remorse for his actions and will be very active in the club’s community programs."
