Wests Tigers fullback Moses Mbye.

Moses Mbye's State of Origin ambitions have been dealt a blow after the Wests Tigers skipper suffered a groin strain at training on Friday that will likely keep him out of his side's clash against the Rabbitohs.

With both Origin teams to be finalised over the weekend, Mbye was the frontrunner to win a spot on the bench for Queensland in game one, with his versatility putting him ahead of Anthony Milford in the pecking order.

While the injury is a huge blow to the Tigers, the positive news for Mbye is that the injury he sustained in captain's run is only expected to sideline him for Saturday's game against the South Sydney Rabbitohs.

If selected by the Maroons on Monday, the Tigers are confident Mbye would be available to train for the majority of the camp.

It's expected David Nofoaluma will come into the Tigers 17 to replace Mbye.
