1993

ARL chairman Ken Arthurson rules out any further action against five players reported by referee Greg McCallum in the wake of Origin III.

The board of the International Rugby League vote to introduce video citing in all Tests. The board also decide to amend the game’s laws to require the defending team to stand back 10 metres at the play-the-ball.

1994

The champion Wigan side steal Brisbane’s title as world champions with a 20-14 victory in the World Club Challenge match at Brisbane’s ANZ Stadium. The game is watched by a crowd of more than 54,000 people.

1999

Cronulla prop Jason Stevens (eight matches) and Newcastle forward Daniel Smailes (seven matches) are suspended for long periods over incidents in a match at Marathon Stadium.

Referee Tim Mander and touch judge Paul Field are dropped from first grade because of their failure to take stern action over the Stevens and Smailes incidents.

2000

The ARL sends warning letters to 10 players involved in a wild brawl in the under-17 interstate clash which was played as a curtain-raiser to the second State of Origin match.

2007

Halfback Jamie Soward completes a remarkable week by steering St George Illawarra to an 11-4 win over Brisbane, six days after playing in the Sydney Roosters’ golden-point win over Cronulla.

2008

A timekeeping error costs embattled South Sydney a crucial scoring opportunity late in the first half of the club’s round 12 clash with St George Illawarra.

An experienced timekeeper mistakenly sounds the half-time siren 55 seconds early with the Rabbitohs attacking deep inside Dragons’ territory. Coach Jason Taylor describes the error as “astronomical”.

2010

Former Queensland prop Ben Ross suffers a further setback in his attempt to return from a career-threatening neck injury when new scans reveal his neck is still a “liability”.

Warriors stalwart Simon Mannering celebrates the twin milestones of 200 games and 100 games as captain with two tries in his team’s 38-18 defeat of Newcastle at Mt Smart Stadium.

2016

Queensland down New South Wales 6-4 in a dour series-opening game, watched by a crowd of 80,251 at ANZ Stadium.

The Blues are angered by a call by video officials to overturn an on-field decision and deny a try for centre Josh Morris. Blues coach Laurie Daley lashes match referees Gerard Sutton and Ben Cummins and demands their removal for game two. Queensland second-rower Matt Gillett is named man of the match.

2018

Official Telstra Tracker technology rates Blues winger Josh Addo-Carr as the fastest player selected for Origin I with a top speed of 37.1km/h (for Melbourne v Gold Coast in Round 10), while centre James Roberts is second fastest at 36.2km/h. Will Chambers is the fastest Maroon at 34.3km/h.

2021

Cronulla sign star Melbourne utility Nicho Hynes to a three-year deal reported to be worth $1.8 million. The Storm were desperate to retain Hynes, while the Broncos, Raiders and Warriors all pitched heavily for his services.
