The ARL Commission will meet on August 1 to discuss the future of Mark Coyne, with chairman Peter Beattie canvassing the views of clubs and states before reaching a position.
Beattie sent an email to the clubs on Sunday, asking for their views and opinions on how the ARL should handle the Coyne situation after the former St George international was arrested in Singapore seven weeks ago.
"It is important for us to handle this matter sensibly by giving Mark natural justice through an opportunity to present his case face to face with Commissioners," Beattie said in his email to all clubs.
"A phone hook-up is not good enough. Besides, there are currently three commissioners overseas in different time zones.
"I am sure rugby league fans would agree that if their future was being discussed they would expect a face to face meeting. We must not only do the right thing but be seen to do the right thing."
NRL CEO Todd Greenberg supported Beattie's consultation with clubs as the ARL chairman comes under fire for not cutting short his own holidays in Western Australia to finalise the Coyne matter.
"I think Mark's done the right thing by standing down immediately and ensuring that there's a proper process put in place," Greenberg said.
"And I think Peter Beattie as the chairman's also done the right thing by engaging widely with the members and stakeholders before they get to an informed decision and I understand that will happen next week."
Beattie told the clubs he will meet with Coyne when he returns from annual leave on Monday, July 29.
Coyne is in the process of preparing a factual paper for the consideration of the ARLC when they meet at 5.30pm on August 1.
"I am therefore keen to hear the views of club and state chairs before the ARLC meets," Beattie's email said.
"If you want to express a view, please email, text or call me before next Thursday week [August 1]. Chairs shouldn’t feel compelled to respond but I am interested in your views."
