Steve Price named Bulldogs' new football manager

Bulldogs great Steve Price will join Dean Pay's staff as Canterbury's new general manager of football.

Price is a current board member at Belmore but will stand down to take a hand's on role in the Bulldogs rebuild as replacement for sacked staffer Gareth Holmes.

Holmes, Bulldogs premiership winner Andrew Farrar, renowned recruitment scout Warren McDonnell and longtime junior coach Andrew Patmore were all axed in a purge of the club's football ranks in May.

Price comes in after the Bulldogs' off-field review of its football operations, with the areas of recruitment and developing young talent identified for improvement.

A champion front-rower in his day Price played in both Canterbury's most recent premierships in 1995 and 2004, captaining the club amidst 222 appearances.

"After spending some time making sure that we found the right person, Steve was the outstanding candidate that came out of our interview process," Bulldogs CEO Andrew Hill said.

"Steve has great leadership skills and a wealth of experience across both football and business. He also has a unique ability to be able to link our past to our future and he will bring a strong vision around the development of culture and family values at our club."
