Refreshed Jennings confident of Eels extension

Veteran Eels centre Michael Jennings says he is finally feeling back to 100% after a mid-season injury and is also confident of sticking around in the blue and gold for at least one more season.

The off-contract 31-year-old said he currently has a one-year offer on the table from the club but his manager Isaac Moses is in talks to stretch that to two.

Jennings said he "easily" has at least two more good seasons left in the body, which is feeling refreshed after a knee injury-enforced layoff mid-season.

"I'm confident [I'll stay]; there's an offer there, I just need to weigh up my options to see what's best for my family," Jennings said.

"It's close. Hopefully it's done this week. I like to take my time on stuff like this."

With a young son to worry about, his own personal priorities needed to take a back seat but he was still hopeful of staying – though it remains possible that a two-year deal elsewhere could lure him away.

"Hopefully two years … to have that security and start building my future," he added. "I want to stay but I've got to make sure it's the right deal."

Jennings admitted he hadn't been 100% in his first couple of games back from a knee injury, though it didn't stop the club extending its win streak against the Dragons, Knights and Titans. However that was all behind him now.

"I've only just got back to 100% on the field," he said.

"The body's feeling well, the mind's in a good place. I've just got to keep fit, no more serious injuries and I should be sweet."

He no longer straps the knee heading into games and the famous speed is starting to return, he added.

"I'm feeling really good, my fitness is back, I'm just happy I'm back on the field, back being 100% and not worrying about the injury going into games now. I can just worry about the game and that's it," he said.

After two close losses to the Bulldogs and Broncos, the club will be keen to return to the winners' circle against Manly on Friday even though they have locked up a home final regardless of this weekend's result.

Jennings sat out the convincing loss at Lottoland in round 18 with his knee injury but hoped the team overall could learn from how that game went.

"It was pretty obvious we got rolled through the middle," he said.

"They were making 80 metres every set. Plus our completions were poor, we didn't finish in their corners, we didn't really put them under pressure and move them around and tire their forwards out so their forwards were fresh and rolling through our middle and dominating."
